Fire Hits Sawmill

Springfield, ORE, (AP)--Fire in the Sol A Cuddeback sawmill at Mohawk, north of here, caused heavy damage to equipment Monday night. Crews from the Fisher Lumber Co. and the East Lane Fire Patrol brought the flames under control after about 45 minutes. There was no immediate damage estimate The loss was reported covered, in part, by insurance. ~~~

Solomon Cuddeback

The funeral will be held Sept. 5 for Solomon Ashley "Sol" Cuddeback of Eugene, who died Aug. 28 of age-related causes. He was 91.

Cuddeback was born Jan. 23, 1912, in Portland to Solomon and Margaret Ashley Cuddeback. He married Ruby Lasater in Eugene on Nov. 3, 1933. She died Aug. 17, 2001.

He and his wife owned and operated Cuddeback Lumber Co. in Eugene.

His interests included traveling and ballroom dancing. He also enjoyed playing tennis and was a founding member of the Willow Creek Racquet Club. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include three sons, Solomon, Dennis and Randall, all of Eugene; two sisters, Margaret Clarke of Claremont, Calif., and Naomi Willoughby of Eugene; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friday's service will be held at noon at the Emerald Baptist Church in Eugene. Burial will be at Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene. Rest-Haven Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
