Sadie GRIFFITH WACASER was born in Pettis County, Missouri on the third day of July, 1876, removing to Kansas in March 1879 with her parents, who then settled in Barton County on a farm afterwards locating in Great Bend in June 1885. Here they have since made their home. Her father, Theodore GRIFFITH, has filled several high offices of public trust in the administration of the affairs of the city and county and is at present postmaster of Great Bend.
In September, 1902, Sadie went to Las Animas, Colorado, for a visit with an aunt who lived there. While on that visit she met Mr. H. M. WACASER and on the first day of March, 1903, they were united in holy wedlock. They lived in Las Animas for a very short time only, when Sadie made her parents a visit and on her return she and her husband located at Rocky Ford, removing later to La Junta, Coroardo, where they lived until failing health induced her to return to her Kansas home. She hoped this change of climate would restore her health, but alas, it was too late. The disease that pursued her had made such ravages upon her strength and vitality that she was unable to rally and at the solemn hour of midnight on Sunday, the 20th day of March, 1904, she yielded up her spirit to the God who gave it and quietly sank to rest in His everlasting arms. The deceased was converted and united with the M.E. church during the Shawhan revival in 1891.
Sadie is the first to pass away of a family of eight children born to Mr. and Mrs. GRIFFITH. She was always of a bright and happy disposition, apparently robust and the picture of health. As a child and during her girlhood she was a devoted worker in the Sunday School, and the girls of her class, all of them now women grown and many of them now married and moved away, will learn with profound sorrow of her untimely death. Her sorrowing husband now makes his home in our midst and to him and to the bereaved family the entire community extends a cordial sympath, directing them for consolation to the ever-living spring of faith which strengthens us, with confidence, and composure to a blessed immortality.
The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist Church, Rev. A. B. Hestwood officiating. The attendance was large. The floral offerings were profuse and very beautiful.
