Mrs. Degon worked for Tip Top Bakery and later for the Malone Dress and Warner Bros. factories.
Born Oct. 23, 1922, in Potsdam, daughter of Lewis and Viola McDonald Herne, she attended local schools.
She married Fabian F. Degon on Jan. 22, 1957, at St. John Bosco Church. He died July 1, 1988.
She was a communicant of St. John Bosco Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles, bowling, reading and bird watching.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Christopher and Lori, Malone; a daughter and her husband, Mary and Christopher Cordes, Maywood, N.J.; a brother and his wife, Lawrence and Felma Herne, Norwood; two sisters and their husbands, Lois and Ronald Gooshaw, Norfolk, and Sheila and Stanley Farmer, Norwood; six grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Five brothers, Larry, Roger, Patrick, Robert and Julius "Sam" Herne, two sisters, Clara Henderson and Harriet Shorey, and a granddaughter died before her.
A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Bosco Church. Spring burial will be in St. John Bosco Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service.
