Charles "Eddie" Edwin Gill, Sr. was born to William Saunders Gill and Minnie Wylie on Sept. 12, 1895 in Troy New York. He was the second child, younger brother to William Wylie Gill. When Eddie was about three years old he and his family moved to Chicago, Ill.
While he was serving in the military, he served in the Military Band, he was stationed at Camp Dick in Dallas, Tx. Eddie fell in love with Texas and decided to moved here when he was released from the service. He moved his mother here with him. At that time she was estranged from her husband and William Wylie had died in the 1918 Infulenza Epidemic. Eddie continued his music career, working for WRR among others here in Dallas. He married Francis Kathleen Coleman in 1927 and in 1929 they had a son, Charles E. Gill, Jr. (my father) and then in 1934 they had a daughter, Martha Gill.
