Bio by Dale Hawkinson: Bob Beem was the son of Nellie Saltgaver Beem and John William Beem. He was the brother of Helen Patricia Beem Gouldner and Barbara Beem Campbell. Bob was just a year old when his mother died at the age of 25. The three young Beem children when to Kirkland to live with their grandparents, Paul and Nellie Saltgaver. Grandma Saltgaver then died in 1931 leaving Grandpa Saltgaver to raise the three Beem children. They attended the Kirkland Schools and thrived. Grandpa Saltgaver owned a Grocery and meat market in Seattle. At the time of registration for WWII, Bob was working for his grandfather.
