Ellen grew up in Jean, Texas and attended elementary school in Jean. She played volleyball while in school and graduated from Olney High School in 1942. She was a homemaker and she worked as a nurses' aid at Olney Healthcare and Seven Oaks, as well as working as a private care nurse. She also worked for several years for Perkins Timberlake.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Ellen Lee on May 18, 1948, and a son-in-law, Odie "Buddy" West on September 7, 2004.
Survivors at time of death included one son, Howard Lee of Olney, Texas; three daughters, Dolores Kay Lowrance and husband Bud of Graham, Texas, June West of Farmersville, Texas and Mary Gay Lee of Olney, Texas.
