Brady enrolled at Empire Ranch, California, July 29, 1862 and mustered-in as Private, Company K, 2nd California Cavalry, at Camp Douglas, Utah Territory, January 20, 1864. At enlistment he was described as age 18 years, that he was born at County Longford, Ireland, and that his occupation was Clerk. Private Brady received a gunshot wound in the face and through the noise, dangerously, at the Battle of Bear River January 29, 1863. Private Brady was transferred to Company M, same regiment, October 22, 1864 and was mustered-out, due to the expiration of his term of service, at Fort Laramie, Wyoming Territory, July 30, 1865.
