Victoria Cross Recipient. He was awarded his VC for service during the Crimean War on the 20 November 1854, when he, with a party of 100 men, entrenched themselves in some rifle pits captured from the Russians and resisted all attacks and attempts to dislodge them over night. He later reached the rank of lieutenant general and was Knighted Sir Wilbraham.
