Frank J. WATTRON b. Feb 5 1861 Herman, MO. d. Aug 2, 1905 Holbrook. AZ. Son of Frank Anton WATTRON and Maria REBSAMEN In 1885, he was appointed the constable of Holbrook. When Navajo County, Arizona was first formed in 1895, Commodore Perry Owens was appointed as its first sheriff, and beneath him worked Deputy Frank J. Wattron, a former school teacher and editor. When Navajo County was formed, Owens was appointed as its first sheriff, a position he held until Frank Wattron was elected to the post in 1896.
In 1899, Navajo County Sheriff Frank Wattron caused a controversy when he issued printed invitations to the hanging of convicted murderer George Smiley. The invitations said, "The latest improved methods of scientific strangulation will be employed and everything possible will be done to make the surroundings cheerful and the execution a success." Smiley was given a 30 day reprieve and then hung by the neck, Sheriff deputy HOYER BARGMAN pulling the lever.
Frank was also a druggist in the 1900s. Both he and his deputy were given much credit for cleaning up the criminals that plagued eastern border of Arizona. He is mentioned in the History of Arizona several times in taming the wild west and was widely respected.

Sometime after his death his family moved to Township Twelve, Kern County, California
