Comedian, Author. He was the author of three bestsellers, "Ain't God Good," "Let the Hammer Down," and "Life Everlaughter." After his discharge from the United States Navy in 1946 he attended and graduated from Mississippi State with a degree in agriculture (the only member of the Grand Ole Opry with a degree in agriculture). Author of 4 books and 28 full recordings in his 27 years as a popular country comedian with stories of the rural south. Willie Morris wrote that Clower's humor is "Rooted in a region, but is not regional." In addition to his being a southern humorist and a member of The Grand Ole Opry for 25 years (1973-1998) he co-hosted the syndicated television series, "Nashville On the Road", with Jim Ed Brown for 6 years (1975-1981). He co-hosted the radio and television program "Country Crossroads" with Bill Mack and Leroy Van Dyke for over 20 years beginning in 1973 and he appeared in dozens of television commercials all over the South advertising everything from Dodge trucks to fishing lures.
