Elizabeth "Bettsy" Hutzell was the daughter of Johann "John" Hutzel (1780-1855) and Elizabeth Shoemaker Hutzel (1783-1844). Elizabeth "Bettsy" was one of nine children. They were: Sarah C. "Sally" (1810), Susanna (1807), Daniel (1808), John (1817), Nancy "Lizzie" (1820), Adam "Ad" (1821), Jacob (1824), and Samuel Christian (1827). Elizabeth "Bettsy" married Solomon Smith (1811-1850) on 19 Dec. 1835 in Frederick Co., Maryland. They had three children. They were: Susan Louise (1836), Adam Wesley (1844), and Jacob L. (1840). After Solomon died, Elizabeth and her two sons were living with her father & taking care of him before he died. When Elizabeth died, she was buried in her father-in-law's plot. Her father-in-law was John Smith, b.1787 in Washington Co., Maryland. It is believed that after her father died, she went to live with her father-in-law.
