Richard Dobbs Spaight, LDS ID L623-XYV, was the son of Margaret Elizabeth Dobbs, MX4G-Z2N (b. 1711), and George Spaight, KH66-CC2 (1700-1770).

He married in New Bern, Craven Co., North Carolina, in 1756, Elizabeth Wilson, L623-F6Q (b. 1738), daughter of Colonel William Wilson and Mary Vail, the widow of Frederick Jones, Esq.

Colonel William Wilson erected, about 1735, a colonial brick mansion, known as "Clermont", which was destroyed by the Federal forces in 1863.

Richard served as Secretary of the Crown in the Province of North Carolina; Justice of the Supreme Court and Member of the Council of Gov. Arthur Dobbs, 1757-1763.

They had one child:
