Obituary: Thomas Clifford Leftwich 51, of 445 Bates St. Logansport, IN. was found dead at his home Wednesday, February 14, 1979. He was born August 17, 1927 in Ash Flat, Arkansas and was the son of the late Lewis Cass and Lela Bates Leftwich. He was married in 1948 to Mary Erwin(Libby) in Georgia, who is from Silver Point, Tennessee. A World War 2 Army veteren, he was a meter reader for the Northern Indiana Public Service Company. His survivors are wife, two sons Thomas M. of Louisville, KY and Daniel Lee (Dana) Leftwich of Colorada Springs, Colorada two brothers JB Leftwich of Lebanon, TN. and Lillard Calvin Leftwich of Baxter, TN., and three grandchildren. Rites are pending at the Fisher Funeral Home.
He was the youngest child of Lewis Cass and Lela Belle Leftwich. He grew up in Ash Flats, Arkansas and Buffalo Valley/Boma/Baxter, Putnam County, Tennessee. He had a sister that died before he was born named Doris Christine Leftwich. He was a soldier in occupied Japan in the late 1940s. I find it interesting to note that the Indiana county that he lived in is Cass (his fathers name) and the street that he lived on in Logansport is Bates (his mothers maiden name).
