Robert A. "Huck" Huckleberry , 67, of Seaside, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at Suzanne Elise Assisted Living in Seaside. He was born July 21, 1940, in Seaside, to Claude and Maggie (Piper) Huckleberry . His parents preceded him in death.
Mr. Huckleberry was raised in Seaside and graduated from Seaside High School in 1958. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany and Vietnam. He retired in 1981 after 23 years of service. He was a life member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the Moose Lodge. He served as historian for the Astoria American Legion and was an active member. Family members said he was very proud of his service to his country.
At Mr. Huckleberry 's request, no funeral was held. He was interred at Willamette National Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Jan. 11 at Clatsop Post 12 American Legion in Astoria. Hughes-Ransom Cremation & Mortuaries in Seaside is in charge of the arrangements.
