He was born June 7, 1888 in Cootes StoreVirginia and was a son of the late William and Sarah Strawderman Mathias.
On March 28, 1911, he married the former Alma M. Runion of Broadway who died August 6, 1971.
Mr. Mathias lived in Tiffin 54 years. He was a boiler operator at the Tiffin Art Metal Co.
Surviving are three sons, Norval L., Paul J., and Jerry E. Mathias, all of Tiffin, four daughters, Jane Alabaugh of Tiffin, Berneice Biller of Timberville, Mattie Kilen of Tiffin and Margaret Cross of Bucyrus, Ohio, three brothers, Theodore Mathias of Waynesboro, Roy Mathias of Fostoria, Ohio, and Louis Mathias of Tiffin, three sisters, Helen Whimer of Toledo, Ohio, Clara Dillard of Bloomville, Ohio and Pauline Biller of Harrisonburg, 27 grandchildren, and 48 great grandchildren.
