PIONEER KANSAN DIED OF APOPLEXY
Had Been Planning To Visit His Old Kansas Home.
But Death Intervened and the Arrangements of His Son Have Been Changed to Funeral and Burial Journey.
Stricken with apoplexy on the eve of a motor trip to his old home near Parnell, Kan., ten days ago, George H. Martin, 74 years old, died at 2 o'clock this morning at 1212 Larimer Avenue. The body will be taken tonight to Parnell, near Atchison, for funeral and burial. Mr. Martin was the father of John D. Martin, of the Martin and Adams Music Company. The merchant planned to take his father and mother overland for a visit to the farm where they resided fifty years ago. He purchased an automobile for the trip and he and his father kept their plans secret from Mrs. George Martin. Mr. Martin Sr. spent many pleasant moments planning or the trip. But when John Martin telephoned to his wife a week ago Tuesday to tell her that he was ready for the trip, she answered, "Come home quick, Father has had a stroke." Mr. Martin was unconscious several days before his death occurred. The deceased was one of the oldest residents of Kansas. He had been married fifty-four years. James Martin, a son, resides on the farm near Parnell, where Mr. and Mrs. Martin settled in 1863.
