Christian Burr was a farmer and in his later years, a successful land speculator along with his wife, Margaret. The 1,400 acres of prairie land they purchased in Illinois later became the route of the Chicago Union Railroad. They also owned 20 acres of land just outside Chicago which were later sold as lots. The wealth they acquired funded a trust which established a library built in Christian's name in Frederick, Maryland.

Daughter Victorine Thomas Artz was born in Chicago, Illinois on 15 Aug 1846 and died 25 July 1931 in Chicago, Illinois.
