Previously elected as a member of the Atlantic County Board of Freeholders and as Assessor of Hamilton Township. The son of John C. Abbott and Ann G. Treen Abbott, he was married to Caroline Glover of Camden, NJ, and was the father of Howard, Bessie, Mary, Charles, Jr., Carrie, Margaret, Edward, and Adella. He was the brother of the Rev. William T. Abbott, Sgt. John G. Abbott (casualty at Fort Wagner, Morris Island, S.C,), Joseph E.P., Esq., Clark W., Dr. Benjamin T., Rebecca, and Margaret.
