Nevada Governor. A native of Virginia City, Kirman entered politics in 1899 when he was elected to serve in the Nevada State Assembly. In 1902 he was appointed a member of the Board of Regents of the University of Nevada in Reno until 1904. In 1907 he was elected the mayor of Reno, serving until 1909. After successfully serving as the president of Reno's First National Bank during the Great Depression, he was elected to serve as the 17th Governor of Nevada, a post he held until 1939.
