Born in Arnprior, McNabb Township, Renfrew Co., Ontario to William Storie (1798 Scotland - 1852 Ontario) and Mary Ann McQueen Storie (1803 Scotland - 1877 Ontario) immigrants to Canada from Scotland. David was the first of this branch of the family to be born in Canada.

He married 1) Mathilda McCallum (1853-1876) a child of immigrants as well.
Children: William John Storie (1870-1941)
Sarah Mathilda Storie O'Neill (1874 - ?)
2) Annie Brisnaham (1857 - 1950?)
Children: Jennie (1879-?)
Thomas (1881-1954)
Francis (1884-1885?)
Ernest W. (1886-1955)
Mae (1889-1960)

David migrated from Ontario to Emerson, Manitoba about 1880. Later in 1881 he alone crossed to the Dakota Territory of the United States to seek land. In 1882 he brought his wife and children across with him eventually settling near Osnabrock in Cavalier County, Dakota Territory.

For an unknown reason he and most of the family, except William, returned to Emerson where he owned and operated a bakery and boarding house until his death.
