He was captured by Maj. Gen. W.T. Sherman's forces at Chattahoochie, GA on July 5, 1864. He was then taken to Nashville and turned over to Capt. S.E. Jones taken to Louisville and arrived there on July 12, 1864.
Compiled Service Records show he was received at Camp Douglas in Chicago on July 16, 1864. He died at Camp Dougas of Pleurisy (sic) on Dec 30, 1864.
He was buried originally in Block 2 Chicago, grave 365, and moved from this location to Oak Woods Cemetery where his name is engaved on the Confederate Monument there erected in 1901.
Baptized in St James Church.
