Stephen Clayton McConnell worked on the family farm with his father, mother and sisters and brothers. At 18 years old, he left the farm and enlisted as a Private for the Confederacy at Moccisan Gap, VA. He died of disease as a POW at Camp Douglas, Chicago, IL
