Royalty, Holy Roman Emperor, King of Bohemia and Hungary, Count of Tyrol, Archduke of Styrie. The son of Karl II and Anna Maria of Bavaria was born in Graz. He was elected King of Bohemia in 1617 and King of Hungary in 1618 while his cousin Matthias was still alive. He was ousted of power in Bohemia in September 1619 by the Bohemian nobles, who then elected the Elector of the Palatinate Friedrich V as King. After Emperor Matthias' death, he was elected as his successor. His first wife, Maria Anna of Bavaria, gave birth to seven children, including Ferdinand III, Maria Anna, the wife of elector Maximilian I of Bavaria, and Cecilia Renata. His second marriage to Eleanor Gonzaga stayed childless.
