LEHIGH - Jerold E. Grossnickle, 73, of Lehigh, died Friday, June 19, 2009, at Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Services will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Michael Standfest officiating. Interment will be in the West Lawn Cemetery at Lehigh. The visitation is Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Jerold is survived by his wife Dorothy; his children, Cindy (Denny) Corson, Dayton; Wayne (Sheila) Grossnickle, Athens, AL; Rhonda (Andrew) Vaughn, Dayton; Erik (Debra) Grossnickle, Richmond Hills, GA; Shawn (Tamara) Grossnickle, Fort Dodge; Geri (Tim) Zauche, Platteville, WI; 23 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, his siblings Shirley Andrews, Duncombe; Darrel (Sandy) Grossnickle, Fort Dodge; sister-in-law Elizabeth Grossnickle, Dayton, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Baxter. Jerold was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Monika; his siblings, Rosella Evans, Beulah Sturgis, Frances Mundus, Evelyn Grossnickle, William Grossnickle Jr., Lucille Johnson, Loretta Andrews, Earl Grossnickle, Virgil Grossnickle and Richard Grossnickle.

Jerold E. Grossnickle, the son of William and Mary (Williams) Grossnickle, was born September 27, 1935, in Emmetsburg. At the age of four, Jerold moved with his family to Lehigh. He graduated from Lehigh High School in 1954, and was employed with Lehigh Sewer Pipe. On May 23, 1959, Jerold was united in marriage to Dorothy Borer in Grant City, Missouri. In 1964, Jerold graduated from the Waterloo Barber College. Jerold was a well-known barber for 43 years before he retired in February 2007.

Jerold was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Dayton. Jerold was a gifted musician and he was known for playing guitar for several country bands. He enjoyed reading Louis L'amour novels and he was a past president of the Dodger Lions and a former member of the Fort Dodge Eagles Club. Most importantly, Jerold will be remembered for his adoration of his wife, his children, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his entire family, and his love for his guitar music. He will be greatly missed.
