Algie G. Turpin, 88, of Hope died at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at Miller's Merry Manor at Hope.

She retired from Cosco and attended Free Methodist Church.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Inlow & Weaver Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Karen Hargett officiating. Calling will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Association.

Mrs. Turpin was born in Spruce Pine, Ala., Feb. 6, 1914, the daughter of Charles W. and Janie P. Sumerel Hargett.

Survivors include sons, William S. and John W. Turpin, both of Fort Worth, Texas, and David K. Turpin of Columbus; daughters, Virginia A. Troin of Sun Lakes, Ariz., Linda Shera of Tampa, Fla., and Donna G. Spieker of Columbus; a sister, Edna Fleener of Los Angeles; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Hargett; and sisters, Leatha Dickinson and Mary Ellen Gates.
