He was born June 5, 1927 in Ball, Arkansas to Abram J. Crown Sr. & Kathryn (Raley) Crown.
He was a shear operator & foreman at Rockford Drop Forge in Rockford, IL and farmed after retiring from there. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a member of the Rockford American Legion & VFW, past board member of Morris-Kennedy School District in Rockford, and past board member of the Rockford Christian Camp. A.J. enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing and being with his family.
He is survived by his children: Roger D. Crown & wife Colleen, Jeffrey J. Crown & wife Jennifer, Cindy G. Crown, and Brian S. Crown all of Rockford; 3 grandchildren: Meegan Crown, Ashley L. Dickerson & Ella Crown; 2 sisters: Pearl Mahaney of Mountain View, AR and Lula Mae Watson of Carbondale; 1 brother: David R. Crown & wife Alice of Evansville, IN; best friend: Loren Dunigan & wife Davy of Clay City; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister (Evelyn Gowen), and 1 brother (Robert E. Lee Crown).
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with military honors presented at the conclusion of the service.
Burial will be in Mt. Zion (Foster Hill) Cemetery, Clay City. Visitation will be from 10 AM until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
