Harry was well known throughout the counties for his baseball playing both as a hitter and pitcher. They say that none could hit his knuckle ball. The Cardinals and St. Louis Browns wanted Harry to come to tryouts but he broke his leg and never went.

Harry and Alice met in Argyle, dated and later married in 1936. They owned a bar and restaurant in Argyle. They served a lot of food to the railroad train passengers when the train stopped to fill up with water. A lot of the local people would stop by to eat and throw back a few drinks.

Harry and Alice had three children: George and Mary born in Argyle and Jim was born in St. Louis
