Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. A businessman and bridge builder before the Civil War, Moore was appointed colonel of the 33rd Wisconsin infantry upon its formation in August of 1862. The regiment was assigned to a brigade in General Lauman's division of General Sherman's wing of the Army of the Tennessee. They participated in the Red River expedition, the Vicksburg campaign, the battles of Tupelo, Atlanta, and Nashville, as well as the Battle at Spanish Fort, Alabama in March and April of 1865. On April 7, 1865, Moore was awarded the commission of brevet brigadier general for gallantry at the Battle of Nashville. On April 9, 1866 he accepted a second brevet "for faithful and meritorious services during the campaign against the city of Mobile and its defenses." Moore is one of the few Civil War officers to be bestowed two brigadier general brevets for personal gallantry. After the war, he turned to land acquisition and engineering projects.
