Edgar Eugene ("Gene") McAfee was the youngest of 4 sons born to John Jordan McAfee and his first wife, Minnie Pauline Moorman.

The story that I heard from my father, the youngest son of John Jordan McAfee by his 2nd wife, is that Gene was murdered by his wife, Betty, and his wife's lover, Aubrey Logan.
I do not know the details at this time.

Gene is a half brother to my father, Roy Lamar McAfee. I obtained Gene's birthdate from his draft card, so I believe it to be correct, rather than the year 1904 as listed on his grave marker.

THANK YOU to JACK JOHNSON for the following information on my uncle's murder:

WIFE AND FRIEND HELD WITHOUT BOND IN DEATH:

Baldwin County coroner jury recommended that Mrs. Betty McAfee of a North Wayne Street address and a man listed as Aubrey Logan be held for investigation by the grand jury in connection with the death of Mrs. McAfee's husband, Eugene McAfee. The jury had deliberated for several hours.--McAfee was found dead with a slashed throat on the kitchen floor of his home about 9 o'clock Sunday might by Deputy Sheriff Buford Lingold and city police. According to evidence brought out at the inquest, conducted by Coroner Sam L. Terry at the county jail, a razor was in the dead man's hand, and Mrs. McAfee and Logan told the officers that McAfee had cut his own throat while they looked on. Logan was identified by Mrs. McAfee as a family friend who had been acting as mediator in a reconcilation attempt.--The coroner's jury apparently discarded the suicide theory and in its findings recommended the pair be held in the county jail without bond until the grand jury convenes in January for the term of Baldwin Superior Court.--According to evidence brought out at the inquest. Mrs. McAfee asked a neighbor to call the police, and when the police officers reached the scene they found McAfee dead on the floor with his throat badly slashed. Mrs. McAfee was quoted as telling the neighbor to call the police because she was having trouble with her husband.

At trial, both Betty McAfee and Aubrey Logan were found guilty of murdering Gene, and were sentenced to life in prison. However, both were released after serving only 7 years, for good behavior.

That seems to be a very small price for the life of my uncle!
