Graveside services for former longtime McMinnville resident Don Huston Newsom of Scio were held this afternoon in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland. Officiating was Pastor Woodie Wood.

Mr. Newsom died May 8, 1987, in the Albany Care Center. He was 88.

Born Aug. 29, 1898, in Spencer, Ind., he was the son of Odus T. and Effie Trulove Newsom. He lived in Geddes, S.D., Lake Andes, S.D. and Clinton, Ind., before moving to McMinnville in 1936. He moved to the Camlu area in September 1985.

He and Myrtle Newsom were married Aug. 5, 1922, in Yankton, S.D.

Mr. Newsom worked as a grocery-man for Hudson House. He was a veteran of World War I.

Mr. Newsom was a member of the McMinnville First Baptist Church and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Linn Post 584 in Albany.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, Albany.
