He married Mildred Elaine Trowbridge Monday 17 Jun 1946 in Buckley. He was a life resident of the Buckley and Mesick area. He was a World War II Veteran serving 4 years in the US Army infantry. He was a farmer in the Buckley area.

Robert Louis Hankins of Rural Route 2 in Mesick died Wednesday 22 Sep 1976 at the age of 60 y 7 m 25 d on arrival at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City from a heart attack. He had sustained a heart attack two years prior to his death. The cause of death was Myocardial Infarction, Remote Myocardial infarction, Cerebral Vascular Accident and Prostatic. Survivors included his wife, Mildred; 2 sons, Robert Junior Hankins of Buckley and Jerry Lee Hankins of Mesick; 2 brothers, Wallace Raymond Hankins of Hoxeyville and Ernest Cleveland Hankins of Wisconsin; 3 sisters, Nina Ann Byers of Buckley, Lucille May 'Lucy' Redman of Kewadin, Lula Viola & Stanley Castle of Luther; and 2 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Bruce Allen Hankins 03 Dec 1949; his parents John 31 Jan 1948 & Lucille 30 Oct 1963; 3 brothers, John De Lancie Hankins 26 Apr 1973, PFC Donald W Hankins 23 Dec 1944; 2 sisters, Ida May Hankins 04 Jun 1961, and Infant Hankins 20 Dec 1920.

Visitation was 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday 24 Sep 1976 at King Funeral Chapel in Mesick. Funeral Services were 2 pm Saturday 25 Sep 1976 at Mesick United Methodist Church in Mesick with Rev William Amundsen officiating.

Burial was in Plot 4-2-NS in Cornell Township Cemetery in Buckley.
