Edward was born in Frederiksholm, Denmark, the son of Anders and Maren Sorensen Larsen. After his elementary schooling, he attended technical school and a trade school. At age twelve, he studied music and became a talented violinist. He played in many concerts. He also composed marches and other music for special occasions. He came to America in 1908 and lived in Brigham City.

On October 4, 1911, he married Amanda Cecelia Jenson, the daughter of Jens and Agusta Olson Jenson. She was born in Millville and moved with her family to Cardston, Alberta, Canada, where they lived for three years before returning to Utah. She helped her brothers on the farm and later attended a dressmaking school in Logan. She became a beautiful seamstress and made her children's clothing.

The family moved to Millville, and Edward owned a Blacksmith shop in Logan for many years. In 1942, they closed the shop there and moved to California where Ed and Amanda were employed at the Los Angeles Shipyards during World War II. After his return to Logan, he sold his shop to his sons, Edward Jr. and Ray, and he then served a mission to Denmark. He and Amanda celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1961.

Their children are: Lenora Marion (Wilford Anderson), Edna May (Orval Crockett), Edward Jr. (Bernice Anderson), Dorothy Lillian (Ray W. Allen), Waldemar Anders (Geraldine Stoddard), Ray Eldon (Elizabeth Jean Leatham) and Betty LaRee (John Walter Read).
