He served in WWII in the U. S. Army, participating in various European combat. Was on the assault on Anzio Beach in Italy.
After WWII he returned to the United States only to find that employment was limited, so joined the United States Air Force. He would serve his time in Germany, where he would meet and marry his wife Marianne.
He would end up in Portland, Oregon where he would become well versed in the masonry industry working in the offices of a number of masonry suppliers, such as in his early career for Francis Brothers and would join the Pumilite Building Material organization when they opened one of their numerous masonry yards in Tualatin, Oregon. He would remain there until due to failing health he would be forced to retire.
