Chief Torpedoman's Mate Rufus Fye Stout

United States Navy Chief Torpedo Man's Mate Rufus Fye Stout (serial #194-45-56) was born July 25th 1891 in Patterson Iowa. Stout enlisted in the Navy sometime after 1910.

He served on the Armored Cruiser U.S.S. Tennessee during landings on Haiti to protect life and property during the revolution in Haiti from July 9th - Dec. 6th 1915 under command of Rear Admiral William B. Caperton.

Stout served throughout World War I on a Destroyer. During the 1920's Stout was stationed on the Mine Sweeper U.S.S. Quail, he received his Good Conduct Medal July 28th 1925.
In 1935 CTM Stout was awarded his second award clasp. Aug. 4th 1937 Stout was awarded his 3rd award clasp C.S.C. 85808 on a Receiving Ship in San Francisco, CA.

CTM Stout served throughout the rest of the 1930's-40's and during World War II. he was discharged from the U.S. In Navy 1945.

​ Chief Stout was a member of the Lexington Revival California & Branch 68 of the Fleet Reserve of Grants Pass. The Chief passed away Jan. 11th 1966, & he is buried at the Willimette National Cemetary, Portland, OR.
