Published Huntsville Times, Huntsville, AL, Friday, April 12, 1963.
A funeral for Mrs. Nannie B. Carpenter, 78, 2110 13th St., SW, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the New Salem Baptist Church with Rev. G.N. Mitchell and Rev. Roy Stone officiating. Burial will be in Byrd Cemetery. Mrs. Carpenter died Thursday evening at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Lonnie Clark. The body will be at Mrs. Clark's home until the time for the service.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Clark of Huntsville and Mrs. Herbert Craft and Mrs. Gordon Cowan, Owens Cross Roads; a son, Robert C. Carpenter, Owens Cross Roads; four brothers, Harry Maples, Dewey Maples, Jeff Maples and Albert Maples, all of Owens Cross Roads; 21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be W.D. Stephens Jr., O'Neal Martin, James E. Cowan, John C. Stephens, Edward Keel and Nelton Maples.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. James Freeze, Dr. James Carpenter and Judge Ashford Todd.
Laughlin-Service Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

**The original spelling for Maples was Mahpoil. The B in her name was not a initial, it simply meant "B" they often listed letters as names & often had more than one first & middle names during the 1800's

Nannie B Maples married James Thomas "Jim Shack" Carpenter on 2-2-1901.
They had 9 children,

1. Hattie Mae Carpenter Craft,
2. Laura B. Carpenter Cowan,
3. Mamie Maria Carpenter Cowan,
4. Fannie Carpenter Bennett,
5. Nannie Louise Carpenter Clarke/ Acklin,
6. Vivian Earlyne Carpenter Stephens,
7. Amy Evelyn Carpenter Smith,
8. Robert Dewey Carpenter.
9. Allen Carpenter (died young, crib death, smothered while sleeping in bed with parents).

Granny died when I was 11 years old, she was living with Aunt Louise at the time. I liked to hear her stories when we all got together. I wish I had taken notes. I love & miss you Granny!
