The Last Will and Testament of Jesse W. Hickman. I Jesse W Hickman of the County of Fountain of the State of Indiana being of sound mind and memory aware of the large attainment of years granted me by a kind providence that my delivery is not far distant have deemd it just and proper to dispose of that which my own possessions and (blessings?) has endowed me with in the way of worldly estate by executing this my last will and testament. I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Ellen Hickman all of my estate real and personal after the payment of all my just debts left outstanding at my death and all such expenses as may be incurred in giving my body an internment suitable to my estate and condition in life to be and remain to her for her use and benefit during her life that is to keep, the personal is to be at her disposal for her own use and benefit and the rents issues and (p...ts) of my real estate to be in like manner for her own use and benefit so long as she may live. I further direct and will that upon the decease of my beloved wife that my real estate and all such personal estate as may remain shall be sold at public auction after due and timely public notice such as required by law to be given for the sale of Real estate at public sale and the same be sold for one third in hand, one third in six and for the remaining one third in twelve months of purchase giving note with security to be appended by my executor hereafter named. After such sales and collections of the proceeds of the estate I direct that each of my children after all just debts which my wife may incurr and remain unpaid shall be appointed among my six children as follows to William K Hickman, to my son two hundred dollars:, to my other five children share and share alike. except to Jemima Glover whose share is to be reduced fifty dollars which fifty dollars of her share I will and bequeath to Thomas Atkinson, my nephew. I further direct that my executor shall without any charge (judge....) or appraisernent deliver over to my daughter Moine Dixon my family Bible and also the books of my library for which she is in no wise to be (......). I also direct that all my property (......) authorized to be sold, shall by my executor be appraised by to reputable (f...... ) holders and after such sale his allowance for servces (.....) all expenses, rents in the settlement of this my will shall he inspected and allined by the court and distribution of the surplus as herein fixed shall be paid out by my executor, and I duly appoint my (.....ty) friend Samuel Remster the executor of this my last wifl and testamant. In witness whereof I hereto (l....ebe) my name this 17 of October AD 1865. J W Hickman Sealed The will was apparently probated on 24 February 1866 when William Fall and Jospeh Remster verified Jesse W. Hickman's signature and will as witnesses to the signing thereof.
