Published by the Richmond Enquirer on August 22, 1854:
"Departed this life, on the 12th of August, 1854, at the residence of her husband, Mrs. RICHARDSON, wife of Capt. John D. Richardson of Charlotte, in, or about the 71st year of her age. She was suddenly attacked with a fit of Apoplexy, remained speechless and almost in a state of insensibility, and survived only a few days. The best medical aid was called in to her assistance, and every attention paid her to her last moments. Mrs. Richardson was a daughter of the late Col. Thomas Spencer of Charlotte, who was a distinguished officer in the Revolutionary war. She possessed, naturally, a strong, vigorous mind, and was raised and educated in the best old Virginia style; of most amiable manners and disposition, an exemplary christian and member of the Presbyterian Church, and a most loving and affectionate wife and mother. She has left behind her an affectionate husband, and several children, to mourn her loss, to them irreparable. May the blessings of Heaven attend her. W. J. B. B."
