L. P. Sanders, who made his home with his daughter Mrs. M. B. Bessett in Lake Park the last four years, passed away at 5:45 Monday morning, April 11, being at the time of death 83 years, 8 months and 10 days of age.
Lawson Parrot Sanders was born at Danville, Iowa, on July 31, 1854. On Jan. 30, 1878, he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Dixon. They lived on a farm in Powshiek county until 1808, when they moved to Sloan in Woodbury county where they resided until 1910, when the moved to O'Brien county.
Since 1928, his wife has been an invalid and they made their home with their children, living with youngest daughter Mrs. Bessett in Lake Park the last four years with the exception of three months last summer when they were with their daughter Mrs. T. J. Morey at Luton.
Nine childre were born to Mr. and Mrs. Sanders, three of them preceding their father in death.
For more than 60 years Mr. and Mrs. Sanders trod life's rugged pathway together, knowing the hardships of pioneer life in a sparsely populated community where only three houses were between them and their nearest town, 14 miles away. For over 60 years they have been members of the Methodist church and have endeavored to live consistent Christian lives.
Mr. Sanders has been in falling health for the last two months and was confined to bed the last two weeks of his life.
Surviving to mourn his passing are his wife and helpmate of over 60 years; five daughters and one son: Mrs. Fred Hockey of Barnes City, Iowa, Mrs. Art Porter of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Mrs. Joe McFarland of Whiting, Iowa, Mrs. Tom Morey of Luton, Iowa, Roy Sanders of Sibley, Iowa, and Mrs. M. B. Bessett of Lake Park.
He is also survived by three brothers: Homer, Kirt, Nate Sanders, all of Barnes City, Iowa and one sister Mrs. Emmaline Caughland in Colorado. Also 40 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Bessett home, Rev. Carver of the M.E. Church officiating. Mrs. Carver sang "Beautiful Garden of Prayer", and Rev. and Mrs. Carver sang "Nearer My God to Three". Interment was in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Relatives from out of town attending the funeral were: Mrs. Fred Hockey of Barnes City, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sanders, Irvin and Ivin Sanders, Mrs. Donald Asmus, all of Sibley; Arthur Hockey of Woodstock; Lawson Hockey.

Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Sanders observed their 60th wedding anniversary Sunday, January 30, in a quiet way at the home of their daughter, Mrs. and Mrs. M. B. Besett, where they make their home part of each year. They returned her last October 1st from Luton, Iowa, where they had been since April 1st with their daughter, Mrs. Tom Morey. Mr. Sanders does not get out much as he is 83 but has a record of never having used tobacco or liqor during his whole life. Mrs. Sanders is 79 years old and has been sick since the middle of October. She is just able to sit in a chair for a short time each day. Mrs. and Mrs. Sanders were married at Danville, Iowa, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Nanny Head. They started keeping house on a farm there and lived near there for 29 years. Forty years ago they moved to a farm in Woodbury county and in 1910 they moved to a farm in O'Brien county, near Primghar. They retired a few years ago and have been making their home with their children. Their children are Mrs. Fred Hockey, Barnes City; Mrs. Tom Morey, Luton; Mrs. Joe McFarland, Whiting; Mrs. Art Porter, Missouri Valley, Roy Sanders of Sibley, and Mrs. M. B. Bessett. They have 42 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
