Fern Lant
Fern Larkin Sovern Lant, 99, of Burlington died at 7:50 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
Born Dec. 16, 1909, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Willard F. and Myrtle Connelly Larkin. On Nov. 20, 1937, she married Chester E. Sovern in Burlington. He died Feb. 11, 1977. On July 22, 1978, she married Kendall C. Lant in Burlington. He died March 11, 1987.
Mrs. Lant worked at Midwest Biscuit from 1927 to 1943. She then worked for J.I. Case from 1943 to 1949 and at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant from 1961 to 1975, at which time she retired.
She was a 1927 graduate of Burlington High School. She was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church, from Dec. 17, 1909, to the present, the longest held membership of the church. She was a member and past president and secretary/treasurer of United Methodist Women's Society, Golden Rule 1 of King's Daughters, Avesta, and the Homebuilders Sunday School class.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents.
