Richard K. Harras, 83; of Monroe died at the Lutheran Home of Monroe he had been in poor health for one year.
Friends may call Sunday August 16, 2009 from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Rupp Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Rev. Jeffrey Walsh, associate pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 1138, Monroe.
Born July 1, 1926 in Monroe he was the son of Hans and Helen (Umlauff) Harras, he married Elizabeth H. Blaida on June 9, 1951 at St. Joseph Church in Monroe.
He was the owner and operator of Monroe Paint and Supply from 1947 until retiring in 1995.
He served in the US Army as a Corporal from January 2, 1945 to January 7, 1947 and was assigned to the 3010 Army Air Force base.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, 1944 graduate of Monroe High School and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife Elizabeth, son James (Mary) Harras of Monroe; daughters; Ann (David) Palmer and Mary (Joe) Peters both of Monroe; brother Martin Harras of Texas; sister Louise (Will) Woelzlein of Missouri; grandchildren Tim (Megan), Katie, Jeremy, Sarrah, Jeffrey, Brian and Daniel and great grandchildren Drew and Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
