Clyde Pruden, retired Louisville & Nashville Railroad employee, died Tuesday in a Danville, Ky. hospital following a lingering illness.
Mr. Pruden, 74, retired from the railroad about 10 years ago. He and his wife then moved to Corbin where they bought a small farm.
He is the brother of Mrs. Herbert Acuff, wife of the late Dr. Herbert Acuff.
Mr. Pruden is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nannie Pruden; daughters, Mrs. Gladys Allen, of Jellico, Mrs. Bessie Creaser, of Greensburg, Ind., son, R.C. Pruden, Oak Ridge; sisters, Mrs. Virgil Bowden, Mrs. Acuff, and Mrs. Rowan Webb, all of Knoxville; brothers, Harry, Knoxville, and Jip, of Liberia, Tenn.
****************
Grandpa Clyde's last wife, Nannie Johnson Skeen, was the only grandmother I ever knew since his first wife Eliza Frances Herrell died before I was born. Grandma Nannie made the absolute best buttermilk biscuits and while she might send along a cake for my sister to munch on, she knew there was nothing better than a fresh batch of biscuits would be a treat for me! She made many quilts for her family members. I have one of her last ones she ever made when I married in 1967 --- a maple leaf quilt that I treasure to this day.
Grandpa Clyde had a run from Knoxville to Cincinnati on the L&N and met my Grandpa Rollie at a local diner near the Union Terminal in Cincinnati. In true southern hospitality, he told Grandpa Rollie he would see that there were passes so that Rollie and son Marion, could come down for a visit --- and that's how my Dad, Marion (Rollie's son) and my Mother, Bess (Clyde's daughter) met and a year later eloped! ----- Donna Creaser Harwood (dhintx #47160808)
