G. Harold Scruggs, 71, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Monday, October 20, 2008, at his residence. He was born December 24, 1936, in Iuka to G. C. and Minnie Gilchrist Scruggs.

He retired from Genesco Shoe Company, as well as teaching piano for over 35 years. Many churches in Tishomingo County have his students as their pianists. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where he served as the pianist. Watching his grandson Alex play basketball and tennis was his passion. He was one of Tishomingo County's biggest fans.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carley Sue Leatherwood Scruggs; 1 daughter, Tammy Hampton and husband, Sam; 1 brother, Gerald Scruggs; 3 sisters, Irene Scruggs, Beatrice Scruggs, and Dorothy Johnson; and 1 grandson, Alex Hampton; all of Iuka, MS.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, John A. Scruggs; and 4 sisters, Ruby Scruggs, Lula Mae Bishop, Thelma Yarbrough, and Lois Barnes.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Bro. Phillip Logan. Pallbearers include Stanley Page, Tommy Provins, Bro. Frankie Smith, James Calvin Johnson, J. C. Johnson, and Casey Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers include James Hector Bishop, Edward Hubbard, and Ed Hardwick. Interment will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
