He was Prince of Antioch and Prince of Tarant, a crusader, and the oldest son of Duke Robert Guiscard OF ANTIOCH and his first wife Alberada, he was one of the leaders of the first Crusade. He was the first to get into position before the city of Antioch in Palestine, and was responsible for the successful end of the siege in 1098. He was able to persuade one of the commanders in the city to betray his people. He was unwilling to act before he wasn't assured that the city would be his possession. He was taken prisoner in August 1100 and was released in 1103 after Baldwin of Boulonge had paid a ransom. In 1104 he went to Europe to gather an army to fight Emperor Alexios I of Byzantinum. He married Constance of France, daughter of King Philipp I in 1106, and died without returning to Antioch.
