WATERVILLE -- Thomas E. Welch Jr., 73, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at a Waterville hospital.
He was born in Corinna on Aug. 9, 1935, the son of Thomas E. and Mary (Stimpson) Welch Sr.

He drove a truck for Penobscot Poultry, Parks Lumber and Harold Emerson Jr. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and family barbecues. He especially loved and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Ricky, and was especially proud of Ricky's son, Scott, who served two deployments in Iraq and has returned home safely.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Viola Welch of Knox; a son, Robert Welch and his wife, Kathy; two daughters, Diane Jones and her husband, Paul, and Donna Roberts and her husband, Tom, all of Knox; a brother, Earl Welch and his wife, Janet, of Dixmont; two sisters, Joyce and Richard Chase of Unity and Marilyn and Vinal Applebee of Enfield; a special sister-in-law, Betty Moulton; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as his special hunting and fishing buddies.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., where funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Elizabeth Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow at the Kinney Cemetery in Brooks.
