In 1870 Orlando, age 18, was listed with his parents and living in Depauville, Town of Clayton, Jefferson County, NY (BENNETT P C 65 M W NJ NY JEFFERSON CLAYTON 1870; Series: M593 Roll: 944 Page: 252).

Orlando and Amelia are listed in the 1875 census for New York living in the Town of Clayton with their son Chas Herbert, aged 6/12, all born in Jefferson County. His occupation was listed as a marble polisher.

The 1880 census lists William O 28, Amelia 23, Charles H 5, Fred 4, and Flora 1 (BENNET WILLIAM O 28 W NY MI TUSCOLA ALMER 1880; Series: T9 Roll: 607 Page: 33). William's occupation was then a farmer.

In the 1900 census they are living in Michigan with daughters Flora A b Jan 1879, Linnie b Apr 1887, and son Howard b Apr 1894. Amelia is listed as having 4 of 7 children living (BENNETT ORLANDO 48 M W NY MI SHIAWASSEE BURNS TWP 1900; Series: T623 Roll: 743 Page: 26).

Their wedding has two sources, one in Twn of Clayton marriage records, and one recorded in the family Bible in LaFargeville, two days apart. Perhaps both are correct, as some times couples repeat their vows. However, the handwriting in the Bible is the same as some of the entries for children, suggesting that it was made at a later time. Clayton and LaFargeville are close to each other and the old Bennett homestead on present NY Route 12 could be on the way between them. The day of the 23rd is selected as the more likely since it is earlier in time and more specific with the name of the minister. However to add a little confusion to the day, on a loose sheet said difficult to read, is the following: "Orlando Bennett and Amelia Post Dec 24th 1873 . . . "

The Family Bible is in the possession of descendant Phllis Boyd of Mississippi and contains the record of the family children and other family dates. It is cited in this compilation as: Bennett Family Bible (Buffalo, NY: Phinney & Co., 1857). The relevant dates, where given, are associated with the individual. On a separate page entitled "DEATHS" are listed without dates: Willie E. Bennett, Edna Bennett, and Fred Bennett.

BENNETT, WILLIAM O., proprietor of the Byron Marble Works, was born in Jefferson county, New York, whre he remained until sixteen years of age. He served an apprenticeship of three years in the marble cutting trade, and has followed that as an occupation through life. Mr. Bennett has been in bursiness in different towns in the State of Michaigan, among which can be mentioned Caro, Ludington, Flint, and Owosso. It was from the last named place that Mr. Bennett came to Byron. He was married in 1873 on Christmans day to Miss Amelia Post, also a native of New York. To this union have been born seven children, two sons and two daughters living. Mr. Bennett is a superior workman in his line, and takes great pains to give his patrons superior goods. Judging from his past success, we doubt not but that he will build up a substantial trade, and remain one of Byron's citizens.
