1964 - Tilden R. DeLong, patriarch of what is believed to be one of the largest families in Lehigh County, died at 88 yesterday in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. He was progenitor of 182 persons. DeLong, who lived with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel DeLong, Willow Brook Farms, Catasauqua, was father of five daughters and four sons, who survive. Also surviving are 48 grandchildren, 116 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Annie German of Tunkhannock, Lillian, wife of Clarence Stoudt, Allentown R. 1, Erma, wife of Robert Gehman, Coopersburg, Ella, wife of Martin Wieand, Catasauqua, and Edna, wife of Ernest Bernhard, Stiles. The sons are Harry of Freemansburg, Allen of Catasauqua, Roy of Egypt and Daniel, with whom he resided. His wife, Maggie (Hahn) DeLong, died seven years ago. He was the last of a family of 14. DeLong was a farmer. He was employed for many years at the Lehigh Portland Cement Co. farms. He made his home with his son since retiring about 20 years ago. He was a native of Ballietsville, born a son of the late Joel and Mary (Mattis) DeLong. He was a member of the United Church of Christ congregation of the Union Church, Neffs. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Schisler Funeral Home, 2119 Washington Ave., Northampton.
