OBITUARY
JOHN PARK COLWELL
..Park Colwell, 80, Yellow Jacket, died at Southwest Memorial Hospital Sunday a.m., May 27. He was born in a sod house near Bellaire, Kans. on May 9,1899, the son of Lewis Vincent Colwell and Dena L. Manely Colwell. When he was five years old the family moved to Iowa where they lived for several years. They then moved back to Kansas, settling near Bronson, where he grew to manhood.
..At age 16 he accepted Christ as his Savior and in 1921 was married to Bessie O. Watson, the daughter of David E. and Eva Elenora Watson. To this union two daughters were born, Lois Ives of Yellow Jacket and Betty Oakley of Rocklin, Calif.
..In 1937 the family moved from Kansas to a ranch near Yellow Jacket where he farmed beans for eight years. Then they bought a ranch on Texas Creek, northeast of Bayfield where they lived for 23 years.
..He then quit ranching and began to carpenter in the Durango area. He retired at age 62 because of ill health and they moved back to the Yellow Jacket community to be near their daughter and her husband.
..He leaves behind his wife, his daughters, two sisters, Jennie Young of Concord, Calif., and LaVonne Weymouth, of Valley Center, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.
..Funeral services were held at Ertel Funeral Home Thursday, 2 p.m., May 31 with interment at the Fairview Cemetery at Yellow Jacket.
