We learn that J.W. Surby was killed by the cars at Arkansas City a short time ago. Mr. Surby lived in Kiowa for several years and had the respect of all who knew him. Joe, as he was familiarly called, unlike a good many other men was always industrious and sober, and always strove to till his mind with useful knowledge. He had to work hard for his daily bread, but he kept on with the steadfast purpose to rise above the conditions of his birth and conquer in the battle of life. He had already attained a measure of success. - Medicine Lodge Journal.
