Born 1755. On the Waters of the Shenandoah River in Virginia.
Service--Volunteered in 1776, while a resident of Kent Co., Maryland, and served on short tours on alarms, from that year until 1782---3 yrs and 2 mos in all. All of his service was as a guard for the shores of Baltimore Bay and Elk River. He was in a number of skirmishes, several of them quite severe and the British were frequently prevented from landing at the point of the bayonet.
