Alice Lenora Krause Langford

WOODBURN ~ Alice Lenora Langford died September 16, 2009 in Woodburn at the age of 94. Alice was born January 17, 1915 on a farm in West Ravenna, South of Sweetwater, Neb. She attended Sweetwater school through the eigth grade, where she grew up helping her parents work on the farm until about 19 years of age. Alice married Milford Johnson and they lived near Hazard until about 1940. Alice then moved to Yakima, Wash. in 1942, where she went to beauty school to become a beautician. She worked in a beauty salon until she met Walter Slotsenburg, they operated a car lot in Yakima. Alice then moved to Los Angeles, Calif. where she started her own beauty salon. Alice then met Vern Langford and they were married February 14, 1956. They moved from there to Napa, Calif. Alice had her own beauty shop in San Francisco, they also had a small farm near Napa around 1967 or 1968. They then moved to Medford in 1967, where they operated the airport restaurant. They also had a small farm with about 20 head of cattle. They then moved to Eugene and took over the airport restaurant there. They also had a 100 acre ranch with about 60 head of cattle west of Eugene. Then they moved to Terrebonne and purchased a ranch along the Crooked River, on about 120 acres, with about 50 head of cattle and about 3 horses. They operated the A&W root beer stand in Bend. They then moved to a ranch outside of Fall City with their cattle and horses and built the Red Barn Restaurant in Dallas. They then moved to a farm out by Sheridan. They then moved to McMinnville and built two new houses on the edge of the golf course. Alice did a lot of painting and playing golf. They then moved into Woodburn Senior Estates. Vern played golf everyday and Alice did more painting until she lost her sight. Alice is preceded in death by: her father, Clarence Krause; mother, Emma Krause; sisters, Helen Haddix and Irene Opessman; and neice, Sharon Couchman. She is survived by: brother, Loren Krause; nephews, Billy E. Krause, and W.D. Opperman; neice Cynthia Mealy; and six Great Neices and Nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in the Simon-Woodburn Funeral Chapel. Contributions can be made to the Woodburn Evangelical Church.
